The most abundant fish from these samples included chinook salmon, bluegill, and rock bass. Necropsies were performed on the fish, and parasites were extracted as they were found, and fixed in 95% ethanol for morphological and molecular analysis. Parasite samples from four different phyla were collected, including Arthropoda, Acanthocephala, Platyhelminthes, and Annelida. Current morphological work has been performed on one species of acanthocephalan, which was found to be Echinorhyncus salmonis. Molecular work and morphological work are currently underway to determine species identity of the parasites extracted from fish in the East River.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Andrew Novak Biology Garrett Durian Biology David Bailey Professor of Biology View Poster Abstract Field work was conducted to collect 39 fish samples from the East River in Allouez, WI, and Lake Michigan, specifically in the area around Kewaunee, WI.
